There are both visible and invisible laser pointers in the market, one always have no idea which wavelength/ color’s laser pointer to choose for his uses. Here, I would have a brief introduction of these laser pointers’ characteristic and guide one how to choose proper laser pointer accordingly.
On the basic of their different wavelength, laser pointers appear in both visible and invisible forms. Visible laser pointer includes violet blue laser pointer, blue laser pointer, green laser pointer and red laser pointer arranged according to their wavelengths from shorter to longer. Invisible laser pointer always means IR laser pointers in the wavelength of 8080nm, 980nm and 1064nm. Emitting a piece of monochromatic shining laser beam, visible laser pointer is most applicable for business presentation, lecture, academic teaching, military aiming and targeting, astronomy stargazing and celestial objects observation etc. While even IR laser pointer can’t be seen by human’s eyes directly, it can be captured under proper equipment and mostly applicable in industrial instrument, surveillance, and pain therapy and serotonin degradation in patients with myofacial pain syndrome under proper equipment.
Green laser pointer owns the most proximal wavelength to human being eyes’ sensibility, thus, it is the most sensible and visible to be noticed. It is at least five times brighter than red laser pointer in the same wavelength. By taking advantage of that, green laser pointer is widely used in stargazing, hunter and military aiming and targeting, signaling etc.
Red laser pointer is the first created laser pointer, which has the most mature laser diode technology and the most competitive price. It always used for indoor pointing, such as class teaching/ lecture/ business presentation etc.
Blue laser pointer is not as visible as green laser pointer, but its charming blue laser beam attracts most consumers and always being used in pointing and targeting. The high power 445nm blue laser pointer is an ideal for thermal and burning experiments. Not only because its short wavelength but also due to its gorgeous blue laser beam, one can enjoy the excited laser time when burning things. It is the first choice to pop balloon, cut tape, light match and burn paper.
Violet blue laser pointer is the shortest wavelength laser pointer, while as its poor sensibility it is not as welcome as other visible laser pointers. Even it is easier to burn things, laser enthusiasts and lovers would not choose it when considering the laser beam.
IR laser pointers only need to be operated by professionals, which is mostly being used in scientific research, medical treatment, industrial instrument and surveillance etc.
