1.Which color is much brighter?
There are 4 main visible laser colors, they are violet blue, blue, green and red. As green color is more visible to human’s eyes comparing with other colors, which is 7 times brighter than the other colors accordingly to research. And because of that, green color laser pointer is always amateur astronomer’s first choice.
Green color includes two main wavelengths, 515nm and 532nm. 515nm green laser pointer is more shining, but the price is higher much than 532nm green laser pointer now.
The higher the laser pointer output power, the more glisten, also the longer distance the laser pointer emits. No matter what color it is, the higher output power one is more shining than the lower one of the same color. For example,100mW red laser pointer is much more shining than 5mW red one.
For stargazing, choose 5mW and above.
50mW green laser pointer is regarded the most sufficient one both in price and laser beam. For a group of people, 100mW is considered as the perfect one.
3. How much is a laser pointer?
Price depends on wavelength/color, output power and other factors like laser diode, housing material, safety equipment, cooling system, guarantee time etc from dozens of dollars to hundreds of dollars. One should compare them carefully. Low price is attractive, but it should not be considered as the first aspect.
Meanwhile, a good laser pointer should have CE or FDA certificate. A good laser pointer is no doubt should have the authentication.
Choose the suitable laser pointer for the stargazing and make it be your perfect tool to enjoy your astronomy time with your friends.
