Infrared Laser Used in Military

By taking full advantage of infrared laser's characterist, invisible, nowadays IR laser pointer is used in military field more and popular, such as target designation and raging, defensive countermeasurement, communications and directed energy weapons.

IR laser means the laser which emits the invisible beam to naked eyes with the wavelength of 808nm,980nm and 1064nm. Like other visible laser pointer, IR laser also can be used as laser sight by mounting on gun and aligned to emit a beam parallel to the barrel.

And aligned laser pointers are used as laser gunsights to aim a firearm.Some militaries use lasers to mark targets at night for aircraft. This is done to ensure that "friend" and "enemy" targets respectively. A friendly target may wear an IR emitting device that is only visible to those utilizing night vision (such as pilots.) To pinpoint the exact location of an enemy combatant, they would simply illuminate the target with a laser beam detectable by the attacking aircraft. This can be one of the most accurate ways of marking targets.

At the same time, ,military forces have IR lasers to illuminate hostile targets without revealing its position as infrared laser's invisibility.This is a quite useful gadget to do defensive countermeasurement. One can see enemy clearly by wearing detectable vision device even at night time, while hostile notices nothing.

With the development of technology, weapons are becoming more and more powerful. There is no doubt that infrared laser is playing its important role in weapons.
