Never Let Children Play with Laser Pointer Alone

With the development of laser diode technology, the price of laser pointer is becoming so competitive that any person if needed can buy one online. In addition, in order to satisfy consumers’ needs, laser pointer manufactures developed high power laser pointers for entertainment, for instance, popping balloon, cutting tape and lighting matches etc, which do bring quite enjoyable and excited laser time. At the same time, the potential danger that laser pointer might brings should be noticed. Children would have no aware of danger when they are playing with them for fun excitedly, that is also the reason why there are so many serious incidents caused by them.

It is widely acknowledged when laser beam shine onto object surface, there come a laser spot, all power is concentrated on the tiny spot. Laser pointer takes advantage of the characteristic of this and being widely used in various applications. Like double-edged sword, laser pointer can cause temporary or permanent blindness once shine into human being’s eyes directly. What’s worse, it is incurable blindness once retina is burnt by high power laser pointers.
Children are curious of all new things, different with others especially those ones full of mysterious. They also prefer to dig into it to see what the hell it is themselves. For laser pointer, they want to figure out how long distance it is able to travel; whether the serious danger it might be caused is correct or wrong and another questions or views they hear of or see on the internet. They have little knowledge what laser pointer is and serious danger it can cause. The strong curiosity urges them to find answers without paying attention to anything but the “truth”. There was a girl who tried to change her eyes’ color by shining a 50mW laser pointer onto eyes, finally her eyes’ color was not changed but lose sight forever. One can never image how serious incidents happen unless he/she experience himself/herself. But the price is too much, isn’t it? Other children are using laser pointers for fun but when they are playing it too excited all warning would be ignored, by following companion, they point laser pointer at aircrafts, moving vehicles etc.

It is not rare news that serious laser incidents caused by children every day. It is not exaggerated you never know what regretful thing would happen allowing your children play with laser pointer alone once. If he/she do curious about it, play with it under adult’s guard.

Teen arrested after shining laser pointer into Volusia sheriff's helicopter

A Holly Hill teen has been arrested on New Year's Day after deputies say he shined a green laser into the cockpit of a Volusia County Sheriff's Office helicopter.
Andrew Decker, 18, has been charged with pointing a laser light at a driver/pilot after the VCSO pilot said Decker shined a green laser into the cockpit multiple times as they were flying in the area of Hammock Drive.
When deputies asked Decker why he was shining the light, Decker said he was "just shining the trees" and that he was "just seeing if the laser would go that high and it did."
Decker also said he thought the laser was "cool" and learned about laser pointers in Boy Scouts.
Deputies said pointing a laser pointer at pilots can blind them and cause serious damage to their eyes.
Decker was arrested on felony charges and taken to Volusia County jail just after midnight, where he bonded out.
This is also the first laser incident happened in 2014, we hope there has no such misusing laser pointer any more.
